Course Components

Introduction

The Diagnostic POCUS Course Certificate of Completion is offered by the Singapore Society of Anaesthesiologists (SSA). It is open to all local and international medical doctors who wish to learn diagnostic POCUS. The course is broken down into 5 components which must be completed in order to obtain the certificate. The components are outlined below.

Theory Modules

Evidence of having completed background reading covering basic ultrasound physics, focused cardiac ultrasound and lung ultrasound. These can be completed at https://pocus.sg or you may choose to use a suitable alternative. A certificate of completion should be submitted. 

POCUS Skills Workshop

If you are new to point of care ultrasound, it is recommended that you also attend a POCUS practical skills workshop. The Society holds workshops once a year, and there are many other options available both locally and internationally. 

Clinical Cases

These are designed to aid your learning of image interpretation and can be completed online. The course comes with a selection of 25 cases. Each case has a clinical scenario with a selection of cardiac and lung ultrasound clips. There are associated MCQs and explanations to the answers are given. There is no pass mark for this component, but you are required to complete all 25 cases.

POCUS Logbook

You will be required to submit a logbook of studies. These total 50 cardiac scans and 30 lung scans. A logbook template is provided. You are only required to submit images or video clips for 5 FoCUS and 3 Lung Ultrasound studies. Further information on the logbook content is available under the logbook requirements page.

Final MCQ Exam

The final exam consists of 50 MCQs looking at basic ultrasound physics, focused cardiac ultrasound and lung ultrasound. The exam should be completed in 90 minutes and is delivered online.
